The OSNS Child Development Centre accepts referrals from any source, including parents, caregivers and professionals in the community. Parental consent or the consent or a legal guardian for the services is required. Referral forms are available for download here, at the Centre, and at several other locations in the community. Once we have received the referral, you will be sent a letter and a copy of our Parent Handbook to give you more information about the Centre and our services. The Intake Coordinator will follow up this letter by contacting you to gather further information. Referrals received after April 30th of each year in which a child is eligible to attend kindergarten may not be accepted.
What if my child is not eligible for services?
If your child is not eligible for a service we offer, we will provide you with an explanation as to why your child is not eligible. You will also be given information about other services you may be able to access, which could include services offered at the Centre as well as other services available in the community. We will support you in accessing these services and help with the referral process. If you believe that your child is eligible for our services and would like us to reconsider, please speak directly with the staff person you have been in contact with about your concerns. If we are unable to address your concerns, you may make a formal complaint. Please contact the Centre for more information on this process.
What about waitlists for services?
Due to the demand for many of our services, your child may be placed on a waitlist for a period of time prior to receiving service. Waitlists are prioritized based on criteria established for each program. If your child is on a waitlist for a service, we will stay in touch with you about when the service may be available and provide you with information about other services that could assist you or your child. We may also provide brief consultations with you and your child while you are awaiting service. These consultations are an opportunity for us to provide you with resources and guidance on how to support your child in the meantime.
